Dhalia Passive Speaker –  2017

Propulsion set out to design a new kind of speaker. As smartphone speakers get better, users find themselves using them more often around the house. Whether it is podcasts, sports, or even music, phone speakers can be enough. However, it is no secret that the smartphones environment plays a big role on the quality of the sound. We designed the Dhalia Passive Speaker with two things in mind: to amplify sound that comes from a smartphone while it also charges the device, as well as provide sculpture like

 How it works

Using the Dahlia Speaker is easy. Simply connect chi charger to a power source, and place the chi charger in the charger cavity. Once the charger is plugged in and in position, you are ready to place your smartphone on the chi charger. Now turn on your favorite tunes and experience the sound of the Dahlia Speaker conical horn. The speaker can be used with or without a chi charget, however the chi charger is perfect for those who use their device as a wake up alarm!

The Dahlia Speaker was inspired by conical horns. A conical horn is a tapered sound guide designed to provide an acoustic impedance match between a sound source and free air. This has the effect of maximizing the efficiency with which sound waves from the particular source are transferred to the air. Conical horns are even found in nature in the form of the burrows constructed by male mole crickets to amplify their song!
